Latest work: Carmilla

Based on Sheridan Le Fanus' 1972 gothic novella, Carmilla is an illustration depicting the passionate yet macabre romance between vampress Cramilla and her human lover, Laura. The story follows their strange, intimate yet undoubtedly unhealthy relationship and is a suprisingly socially aware book, covering subjects like female emotion and sexuality, the struggle of being a woman in the 1800's.

I wanted to truely respresent the toxicity, possessiveness and ghastliness of Carmilla as a character. Although her interactions with Laura for the most part are kind , her humaneness is replaced with monstrosity at critical moments. Carmilla berates Laura for caring about the passing of a local man, which is later implied to be the work of Carmilla herself.
At points in the novel Carmilla can seem pityable, relatable and a complex character who is but the product of her environment and situation. She seems deeply infactuated with Laura, and the line between desire for her as a meal or for companionship is so deeply blurred that one can't help but be compelled.
